Community Treebate Program

PLEASE NOTE!

This is a list of trees and shrubs that the West Interlake Watershed District considers invasive or potentially invasive in Manitoba. Do not order any of these species for our Community Treebate Program. A rebate will not be provided for any plants of these species.

  • European fly Honeysuckle – Lonicera xylosteum

  • Morrow’s Honeysuckle – Lonicera morrowii

  • Tartarian Honeysuckle – Lonicera tartarica

  • Amur Cork Tree – Phellodendron amurense

  • European Buckthorn – Rhamnus cathartica

  • Ural False Spirea – Sorbaria sorbifolia

  • Tamarisk or Salt Cedar – Tamarisk spp.

  • Siberian Elm – Ulmus pumila

  • Amur Maple – Acer ginnala

  • Japanese Barberry – Berberis thunbergii

  • Russian Olive – Eleagnus angustifolia

  • Winged Euonymus – Euonymus alatus

  • Japanese Honeysuckle – Lonicera japonica

  • Multiflora Rose – Rosa multiflora

Step 1

Order your trees from any supplier between September 1st, 2025 and July 15th, 2026.

 

Ensure variety is suited for your area

(WIWD boundary area is plant hardiness zone 3)

Wait for your trees to arrive.

Program Overview

With the expansion of our district, the WIWD will be offering a NEW tree rebate program to all residents within district boundaries for spring 2026 plantings. This program will allow residents to purchase trees and shrubs from the supplier of their choice, with opportunity for mail order shipping, in an effort to provide fair program accessibility to everyone.

Program Details

  • This program covers the cost of trees and shrubs ONLY.

  • Residents within the WIWD boundaries are eligible to apply. Contact the WIWD to ensure you are within the boundaries.

  • Rebate forms will only be accepted with an accompanying copy of an ITEMIZED RECEIPT, PICTURES & PACKING SLIP (if shipped order).

  • All trees/shrubs must be planted within the WIWD boundaries to qualify for rebate.

  • Once all requirements are reached and application is submitted, the WIWD will issue a cheque (maximum $80.00) rebate to successful applicants.

  • One rebate per resident/household per year. Businesses are not eligible to apply.

  • Programming is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. Program is subject to available funds, and may be discontinued without notice.

We’ve listed a few suppliers to help you get started, but you can buy your trees and shrubs from any supplier.
