2 Billion Trees Program

Tree Lined Park

Details

The West Interlake Watershed District is taking part in the federal 2 Billion Trees program. The program is in its infancy, so please contact the WIWD regarding specific program stipulations and limitations.

Over a period of 10 years, by 2031, up to $3.2 billion will be invested in tree planting efforts to support provinces, territories, third-party organizations (for-profit and not-for profit) and Indigenous organizations to plant two billion trees across Canada. The ultimate goal, to plant 2 billion trees over 10 years, is one part of our commitment to nature-based climate solutions

The program is a cost-share with the applicant, and has a 180+ seedling planting minimum in effect.

There are also species limitations, and a focus on planting trees, not shrubs.

All applications must be approved before project work can begin.

Agreement term is the later of3 years after completion or until 2034.

Planting site bed must be prepared prior to ordering trees
