Southwest IWMP
What is the Southwest IWMP?
The Southwest Interlake Integrated Watershed Management Plan encompasses a region in Manitoba’s Interlake that channels water into Lake Manitoba. This watershed includes parts or all of the municipalities of Coldwell, West Interlake, Armstrong, Woodlands, Portage la Prairie, Fisher, Rockwood, and St. Laurent, supporting a population of approximately 4,400 people. Covering an area of about 3,200 square kilometers, the watershed is characterized by relatively flat terrain marked by shallow parallel undulations or ridges, known as ridge and swale topography. The West Interlake Watershed District is spearheading the development of this plan in collaboration with the Province of Manitoba, municipalities, non-governmental organizations, and local residents.

In the winter of 2013, the West Interlake Watershed Conservation District formed a Project Management Team to begin development of the plan. The first round of public meetings to collect input and information on watershed issues was held in May of 2014.
The Southwest Interlake Watershed Management Plan was completed in December of 2018.
